Labuhan Merapi : Draft

Based on the historical harbor Merapi closely related to the historical background of Kyai Sweep Jagad, Professor Rama, professor Ramadi, Krincing Wesi, Branjang Wire, Sapu Angin, Mbah Lembang Sari, Mbah Kyai Nyai Gadhung Wikarti and Megantoro of which are as ruler of Mount Merapi.

For the people of Yogyakarta, Mount Merapi is not just a mountain but its existence is sacred and mystical symbol of this city and the lives of its people. Mount Merapi can not be separated from the philosophy of the city of Yogyakarta in the palace compound pancernya. Yogyakarta city split by the imaginary axis that connects the South Sea, Parangkusumo, Stage Krapyak, Karaton, Tugu Pal Putih, and Mount Merapi. It is a division of aspects Jagat Jagat Ageng Alit and thus the existence of Mount Merapi can not be separated from the lives of its people.

Although Mount Merapi save a terrible danger and at times can threaten life around, but as part of the natural balance, Mount Merapi, also plays an important role for the survival of the community around it and it is this which are difficult to separate. The existence of Mount Merapi is inseparable from the existence of Islam Mataram in Java, in particular the relationship between the 'gatekeepers' Merapi namely Kyai Sweep Jagad environment Yogyakarta Palace. According to the story, the first king of the Sultanate of Mataram Islam, Sutawijaya entered into an agreement with Kyai Sweep Jagad. The agreement contains a willingness Sutawijaya and descendants responsible to give offerings and return Mataram people will be protected from disaster. The delivery of these offerings is manifested in the form of Merapi Labuhan ceremony is held annually on 25 months Bakdamulud (Mawlid End).

Merapi Labuhan ceremony is always held on the local community and the Sultanate of Yogyakarta generations without compromising the sacred charge. This harbor should only be carried out on the orders of the king as head of government, head of the kingdom and indigenous stakeholders. Labuhan derived from the word 'anchoring' which means offering. The ceremony was held at the peak of Mount Merapi harbor but peyelenggaraan this ceremony also usually held in other places such as in Parangkusumo, Lawu and Dlepih heaven.

Labuhan Merapi is a sacred traditional ceremony the people of Yogyakarta and surrounding Mount Merapi. The sanctity of this ceremony lies in the palace institutions to do specifically, solemn and should not be done just anyone. Kraton is a manifestation of the cultural institutions which means throwing, dropping or washed away objects that have been set so that the sultan's palace and the people get to safety.
For the citizens of Yogyakarta and surrounding Mount Merapi, when the ceremony was held, thousands of people will flock treading each procession. They walked alongside the court servants carrying objects handed over to the harbor for their ancestors, namely Kyai Sweep Jagad.
With the typical dress of Yogyakarta, caretaker and all the courtiers of the palace runs all Labuhan Ceremony procession Merapi. Merapi circuit Labuhan ceremony begins with the receipt uba rampe (fixtures) ports of Ngayogyakarta in Hall Cangkringan. Next towards the end, in Alas Beds Rampe Labuhan of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X recited prayers and processions strains became the main event and closing ceremony of Labuhan Merapi. Once the procession is completed, then the harbor rampe contested by the public. They believe that by getting one of Rampe Labuhan Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X then they will get not only a blessing but also the safety of life.

Destination: Sadranan Beach

One of the newest addition to Gunung Kidul Beach Complex. The name of Sadranan taken from Javanese tradition “nyadran” a tradition of giving a tribute to god through the sea.

Located in Dusun Pulegundes II, Desa Sidoharjo, Kabupaten Gunung Kidul, surrounded with 3 beaches which is Sili Beach, Krakal Beach, and Ngandong Beach, so in case we bored, we could travel to these three beaches by walking along the shore.

White sand and Coral reefs making Sadranan Beach is a perfect spot to snorkeling, if you lucky enough, you can also see a local fisherman hunting fish with the traditional fishing web, there’s also a camping spot for those who want to have a beach camp, if don’t, there’s also variants of inn that can be rent with a relatively cheap price.

FYI Sadranan has 3 building above a man – made reef park which some kind of exclusive villa, but the last time I got there it closed due the renovation that will begin in 2016.

Tradition: Topo Bisu Mubeng Beteng

Literally mean silence prayer around the fort. This tradition held in the night before Suro 1st / Muharam 1st as the new year ceremony in traditional java society. 

With the request from the Yogyakarta society in 1919, a ceremony was held flag heirloom named Kanjeng Kyai Ibadan, by walking around the fortified castle. The ceremony is represeningt the society hope to preventing influenza illness to the people of Yogyakarta. Kanjeng Kyai Ibadan is part of the Kaaba in Mecca blongsong being carried by Safi'i, ambassadors Ngarsadalem Hamengkubuwana I in 1784 SEI. Because the people believe about their inheritance power, then all diseases can be destroyed.

Named Topo Bisu Mubeng Beteng because the ceremony done with marching silently through the remain of outer fort of Kraton Yogyakarta which Pojok Beteng Utara-Barat, Pojok beteng Kulon / Barat, Pojok beteng Wetan / Timur dan Pojok Beteng Utara - Timur, philosophically to look back what we've done in the past year and expressing gratitude to god and also ask for safety and prosperous future. 

This ritual began at 24.00 with reciting the Mancapat followed with marching which start at Keben throung the Rotowijayan st, Kauman st, Agus Salim st, Surowijayan st, Pojok Beteng Kulon, Letjen MT Haryono st, Mayjen Sutoyo st, Pojok Beteng Wetan, Brigjen Katamso st, Ibu Ruswo st, and finish at Alun - Alun Utara.

The tradition is open for public so we can follow the ritual as we like, but remember to keep silent because the core of this event is the silent marching.

Attraction: Ramayana Ballet Prambanan

Ramayana Ballet Prambanan is a show that tells a story about Kakawin Ramayana or simply the javanese version of Ramayana. Performed inside the Prambanan Temple complex, although the show named Ramayana Ballet, it isn't like a Western ballet performance, the show mostly consist of dancing with each scene represent the event of Ramayana. The show divided into 4 episodes which:
  • The Abduction of Dewi Sita
  • Hanuman Journey to Alengka
  • Death of Kumbakarna and Rahwana
  • Rama and Sita Reunited
